HITTING CLASSES
There are swingers, & then there are HITTERS…
Lone Star breeds HITTERS.
Lone Star’s Hitting Classes offer players the chance to fine tune their mental approach, while also getting in the amount of reps needed to make mental & physical adjustments. Quality over quantity should always be the goal for a hitter. Taking 100 swings off the tee with no thought & no purpose is worse than the hitter who takes 25 swings off a tee with purpose, intent, & ADJUSTMENTS.
Our expert team of hitting instructors are here to help players find that purpose & direction, giving them a plan of attack towards how to practice on their own, & how to think on gameday.

HITTING CLASS PACKAGE PLANS
If a hitter feels fear at the plate on gameday, it is most likely due to lack of preparation. Not getting enough practice or swings during “off days” can lead to a lack of confidence in the box, which let’s face it, never leads to hits.
Our Hitting Class Packages give hitters a chance to continuously train the right way & keep their mind sharp.

The System
During Hitting Classes, players will be run through a series of cage rotations. Each cage will focus on a certain hitting concept by using a drill or competition to support that concept.
Lone Star has 2 hitting pillars:
TECHNIQUE (physical)
APPROACH (mental)
Any hitting drill or concept that we focus on in each cage will fall under one of these two pillars.
It is important that hitters know the difference between the 2 pillars & know exactly when to work on each one. It is also very important for hitters to know that one pillar is more important than the other. A hitter can have the most beautiful swing in the world (TECHNIQUE) during BP or in the cage, but if they don’t have the right MENTAL APPROACH during the game, then that beautiful swing doesn’t matter.
There are several areas that fall under each pillar, but there is none more vital to your success than CONFIDENCE, which falls under Mental Approach. Because finding confidence is not always easy as flipping a switch, we will incorporate simple methods & routines in order to help build confidence at the plate.
Technique/Mechanics
If you want to get to gameday & not have to worry about technique or mechanics, then having the discipline to swing on your own is necessary. The best way to work on technique? Tee-work! If MLB hitters have a daily tee routine, shouldn’t you? This is when you can slow the game down & focus on each rep, making the right adjustments needed to improve. Working hard on your swing doesn’t guarantee hits, but it sure does give you the best chance.
The toughest part about training technique is mechanical adjustments usually take time, patience, & hard work before you see positive results. Some mechanical fixes may give instant results, but most require getting in the cage & experimenting with your swing. So trust the Process! Ultimately, a hitter has to know their swing better than anyone else, even their favorite coach. That takes time, work, & a love for the game.
Types of drills/concepts we will use involving Technique:
Rhythm & Flow in stance
Loading on time
Launch position
Ground force/KINETIC CHAIN
Hand path/Bat Speed
Timing
Don’t ever lose sight of how truly important TIMING is in our game.
Baseball/Softball explained in a nutshell: “Hitting is timing. Pitching is disrupting timing.”
Timing is so important that it goes hand in hand with both pillars-physical & mental. Timing is always a thing, it never goes away! It should always be a focus, starting from the second the opposing SP begins to warm up in the bullpen. It should be your #1 focus on-deck, and it should be your #1 focus at the plate. The more you focus on timing up your swing with the pitcher, the more you’ll be able to block out distractions & create confidence.
Mental Approach
Working on TECHNIQUE should be done ‘behind the scenes’, so on gameday you can rely on your routines & let your hard work pay off by having a clear mind, even with the game on the line. You should feel confident on gameday because the work has already been done. Now you can just relax, go have FUN & focus on winning with your teammates, which is the best recipe for individual success. Your swing & TECHNIQUE is what it is on gameday, which is when your MENTAL APPROACH & your ability to COMPETE w CONFIDENCE kicks in.
Compete with Confidence
Both hitting pillars are intended to create confidence. Confidence is a “stain you can’t wipe off”, so it doesn’t matter whether you are walking to the dish in an 0 for 20 slump or seeing it like a beach ball, all elite hitters have routines & methods that they can rely on to get locked in & STAY locked in. Blocking out distractions can be tough in a game where there’s at least 15-20 seconds of dead time in between each pitch. The types of thoughts that fill up a player’s head from pitch to pitch is very crucial in a player’s ability to compete, stay positive, & to stay confident, no matter what. Easier said than done? Of course! That’s why we are here to help.
Types of drills/concepts we will use involving Mental Approach:
Routines, Breathing
Visual Training, Pitch Recognition
Situational Hitting, Plan of Attack
Games, Competitions - Compete & have FUN.
